Monte Toyon Specific Food needs/Food allergies Policy
At Monte Toyon camp, we take food allergies and special diet needs seriously. We want our guests to feel satisfied and safe with our delicious meals. In today’s world, there are many food allergies and dietary restrictions. It is important that our guests inform us of the name of the group member, student, chaperone, faculty, etc., that have any specific dietary food needs/food allergies, no later than one week before arrival. If we are unaware of these issues one week before guest arrival, we cannot make our best efforts to avoid the food allergies/restrictions.
We also may not have the substitutions available.
When informed of food allergies/restrictions prior to your arrival, we can provide vegetarian, vegan, dairy free and gluten/wheat free options. However, if the person is a gluten free vegan, they should supply their own bread.
When informed of the below “Top 8” known food allergies/restrictions prior to your arrival, we can prepare food to avoid the following.
**Outside of the below 8 restrictions, folks really will need to supplement or supply their own food.
Dairy (milk, cheese, yogurt, ice cream, etc.)
Eggs.
Soy.
Wheat.
Peanuts.
Tree nuts (such as almonds, cashews, walnuts)
Fish (such as bass, cod, flounder)
Shellfish (such as crab, lobster, shrimp)
Tree nuts and Peanuts: We are a nut-free facility. However, we do want guests to be aware that some of the food we may serve, may have been processed in a facility that also processes nuts.
Soy: Please let us know if trace amounts are acceptable.
Fish and Shellfish: These are not applicable to the food we serve with one exception, 1000 island dressing, which contains Worcestershire Sauce, which contains anchovies.
Dairy: Please be specific. For example, the person may not drink straight milk, but, can have it in baked items or, the person can’t drink milk, but butter is ok.
Eggs: Please be specific. For example, the person can’t eat scrambled eggs, but can have egg in baked or cooked items.
Wheat: If the person is gluten and egg/milk free, please provide own bread or inform the kitchen the brand you use. We usually use Rudi’s brand, which contains milk and Udi’s, which contains eggs.
If a guest is Celiac, please have them provide their own food.
If a guest has serious life-threatening allergies, that are not on this list, please have them provide their own food
If a guest has food needs/allergies that are not on this list, please have folks supplement or supply their own food
There is a refrigerator available at the program center office, and a microwave is located in the dining hall. People will not have access to the kitchen to cook or prepare food.
Thank you for helping us give your participants a great time at Monte Toyon camp.
